Kakava and Hıdırellez Festival

Kakava is a joyful Roma (Romani) spring festival celebrated in Edirne every 5-6 May, marking the arrival of spring. At its peak people light fires by the Tunca River and leap over the flames. The festival intertwines with the Hıdırellez tradition that falls on the same days.

Bocuk Gecesi: Thrace's Winter Tradition

Bocuk Gecesi is a traditional winter celebration held on the coldest night of the year in Thrace. On this night people go door to door in scary white-sheeted masked costumes to visit homes. By tradition, a pumpkin dessert called "bocuk" is served.
